Garlic
chives, Tarragon and Horseradish are planted along the outside of the garden
fence. The strong odor of garlic has
proved as a deterrent for deer for us. |

Tomatoes love Carrots It appears to be very true. These tomatoes and carrots were planted
after some other single beds of tomatoes and carrots and the bed of companion
planting has just flourished. There is
something to it! |

A few other examples would be: Planting pole beans at the base of
corn – the corn supports the bean vines, the corn is has already been picked
by the time the beans get up high, beans put nitrogen in the soil which is
needed by corn. Use of other strong smelling herbs
and flowers such as Tansy and marigolds will help deter pests. Planting a bait crop of little
value around the main crop will attract pests for feeding thereby protecting the main crop. Planting radishes around the base
of squash plants will help deter squash bugs. |
